In Boston and New Hampshire for a few days. I never had much of a family growing up, so visits to Eric's extended family can be stressful. Doing alright, got to go shopping on Newbury street which was fun.

I am sure you have heard about this kid. Loved this take on it. Obviously The Daily Show knows how 10 year olds think. Story starts at 1:50ish mark.

Bonus Jon Stewart/[info]raygunronica Fun Facts!

What do Jon Stewart and I have in common?
1. Graduated from College of William and Mary.
2. Earned B.A. in Psychology from said university.
3. Q:What will we reply when asked about our time there? A: "I was miserable there."

lol Though TBH I don't doubt that Stewart had it much, much worse being Jewish in Williamsburg, Va in the 80s than I did as a Latina in the '00s. It was a good school. I loved my professors, it was pretty, never got very cold and I met some very cool people. But I hated almost everything else. The student body was not so diverse or interested in things besides frats or getting into law school(gross oversimplification, but defines atmosphere well). Stewart came and spoke once and was like yeah I was in a fraternity (can't remember which, the soccer one) and said fraternity members were like WOOO! And he was like Why are you wooing? That is just stupid. And then somehow also bashed Duran Duran a few minutes later. I think he was working out some left over hostilities. But he came back and spoke at my graduation. The only thing I remember was that he ended with a story about how seeing a man play with himself on the streets of New York reassured him that things would go back to normal after 9-11.

ETA: The Commencement address. Couldn't find video, though I know it exists.:<

I was able to get into that voiceovers class at the Theater Lab. Last night was our first real class and we learned a phonetic alphabet. It was actually fun. I think I can use this some to teach myself dialects. The teacher said that he wasn't sure how much the class could help since I already had a demo, but that his coach/producer would be coming in five weeks and would listen to my demo to tell me if its any good or needs editing. So yay.

Probably going to watch The Prisoner on Sunday on faith because Sir Ian is in it. Though it doesn't look nearly as delightfully weird as the old show.

BECAUSE I WAS LOADED OKAY!

no raisin

So you've probably already seen this and maybe only 25 seconds of this are actually funny, but I am glad I was not the only one who burst out laughing during this scene originally. "BECAUSE I WAS LOADED OKAY!?" has been a much used catch phrase/excuse in the last week or so(yeah I am a week behind, whut?). complaining )

I am pretty sure the background song in that video was also used in the epic rave scene in the first season of Spaced. Which just makes me lol. '90s hard core techo will never die. I was going to embed those Spaced videos here, however Channel 4 is not having it. But this sequence is TOTALLY worth watching.

Ugh I missed signing up for the Voice Acting Class I want to take, so now I am on the waiting list for the waiting list.:/ I find out Tuesday for sure if I can get in.  I need to get more organized and actually do things when I think I should instead of putting off.

Going to Markhoff's Haunted Forest with [info]gqmf_dc in a few hours. Should be fun. Not sure what to do tomorrow though. Hopefully something fun.

What are you doing for Halloween?

I think I just figured out that the person that's been smoking weed the last three nights and stinkin' up my apartment is the old guy next door with an unplaceable European accent. He's been gone for months and he started appearing in the hall the same day the pot smell began. This makes me lol and mind a little less.

Seeing Andrew Bird and St. Vincent tomorrow with [info]spiderwebb. babbling )

Had this song stuck in my head all last week. I think I like this album better than Marry Me.  IDK I guess I like things louder, more uptempo and with darker lyrics.

Ugh it smells like weed in my apartment and no one here is smoking. Go to sleep hippies.

ETA: Which is weird because smell barely ever travels through the walls here.
not what I had in mind
No costume shop I went to had Star Trek shirts in small or medium. The employees say they only got 2 or 3 of those sizes. WTF? No ST zombie tomorrow night.  X(

Crosspost from the planning page at the <lj user=GQMF DC> group. Should be fun.

If you are not interested, can't make it, or just don't live in the DC area please enjoy this sketch of a handsome dandy from last year's SPX. I think we also have a sketch of John McCain crying and eating cookies from this artist, but I can't find it. D:

Are you tired of this meme? Too bad.

When we were at the Star Trek exhibit there were different models of ships from the shows and movies that started in the 20th century and moved forward chronologically. But for some reason the support o hold this version of the Enterprise was broken and the ship was just left hanging upside down. You can't see it in this in the pic but someone tried to reinforce it with lots of magic tape. Yeah, that did not work.

Though really I like to imagine Chekov and Sulu are actually taking the ship for some loops to entertain themselves. Cause you know they'd do that. Especially Sulu.

Haven't been on LJ much. My laptop died and had to be restored to factory settings. :( Though Eric and I are finally feeling better. I am pretty sure he got a cold from one of his students. He is currently trying to make a gif  of Chris Pine's dancing from the beginning of Bottle Shock and cursing profusely. So it is probably not going well. I am trying to design my own demo packaging/stationary/business cards and doing poorly. Too many choices and IDK anything about design programs. I think I need a graphic designer?

not what I had in mind
UGH I have not been feeling well this week. Migraine? Check. Random gallstone attack? Yes. Eric has cold so basically we have just been sitting in the apartment doing a half assed job of trying to take care of each other. It is probably some cosmic payback for having so much fun at the Star Trek Exhibit this past Sunday.

One of the things we saw there was an original Kirk uniform from TOS, which was cool. Though for some reason it was in the corner of the room on a stumpy legged mannequin. WHY YOU DO THIS FRANKLIN INSTITUTE? If anyone was inspired by that and has $3,000-5000 dollars kicking around you can bid on some Kirk pants at this website I saw.  NGL if I was absurdly rich I'd want to own these. Cause Shatner in the first season? Yes please. Even Spock was interested in that. Plus, they are kinda cute.

Though they are made of wool? Why would you want to wear wool pants on a tv set under all those lights? No wonder Kirk was sweaty half the time. I always thought he was working hard on coming up with a plan. Anyways, right now I don't care that I feel like crap as long as I can make it to Small Press Expo this weekend. Emily Flake! Kate Beaton! Indie comics excitement! This is my wallpaper right now thanks to Beaton.

Went to see Los Campesinos at 9:30 last night. It was an incredible show! TBH Eric and my friend Elise are much bigger fans of theirs than I am, but their music is so damn upbeat it is physically impossible to resist live. The singer and guitarist did the encore song from the middle of the crowd on the floor which is something I've never seen. There was even some grandpa rocking out. They seemed to transition from the Black Cat to the larger club pretty easily.

Okay so I haven't had a chance to write up my San Diego Comic Con fun, but if you're curious I've uploaded most of my Comic Con pictures to my flickr account. I will probably make the actual pictures with me in them only viewable to friends after tomorrow.  Also there is one really awful picture of me and John Barrowman (as in I am making the appropriate face for meeting John Barrowman, meaning I look like an IDIOT)-- let us never speak of this picture. Go here www.flickr.com/photos/30980257@N04/  (Can someone tell me how I can combine an html link and words? I'd appreciate that.)

In other news my Voice Acting Demos have come in the mail! But after listening to  to 5 seconds of it I am having a massive self doubt episode. Not sure this was a good idea. *panics*

I;ve been focusing on making up work since getting back from vacation, but through most of it now. Sorry if I've been slow getting back on comments and such. Getting back into the swing of things now. Seeing Heathers tonight with [info]spiderwebb

what about beard?
Eric just told me that if I was sucked into a portal to another dimension he wouldn't come after me. This coming from the guy who loves fantasy/ sci-fi romances stories. To think I almost hopped on the back of angry southern man who threatened to "whip" him in the face two years ago in the parking lot of a fast food restuarant in North Carolina. Time to find another boyfriend?

Also where is everyone? Please update your journals. I am bored with my work and need distraction. STOP HAVING A LIFE  AND ENTERTAIN ME WITH YOUR CLEVER MINDS PEOPLE. kthnxbai.

Wrath of Khan This Thursday

Spock BFF
There is one last showing of Wrath of Khan this Thursday. I'll be going and if you'd like to join I will direct you to the DC GQMF comm over here:community.livejournal.com/gqmf_dc/1144.html

I don't care if you are not a big TOS fan. This is still a good movie. Plus, you know you want to spend some time with this these two:

"Well, either choke me or cut my throat. Make up your mind."*

*Yes, I know this is from Space Seed, not Khan.IDC. Also, is it just me or is there a damn unicorn horn or something up there?

Met Clifton Collins Jr today at Shore Leave! He was a bad ass and recognized us from when he stopped by and said hi yesterday. I will write up what he shared in a bit. After we chatted I asked for a picture and his representative said thats $20. We were like oh nevermind. So he was like PSHHHH and let us take a pic anyways. Wish I'd worn a nicer shirt! I literally woke up and was like:" Oh I want to get to the con asap. It doesn't matter what i wear, its not like I'm going to be taking pictures or anything." WRONG. ALWAYS WEAR A NICE SHIRT.

I love that skeleton in the back so much. <3 I need to learn to do screencaps so I can get a shot where he's right in front of the skeleton.

I asked Eric if he would indulge me with the viewing of a Karl Urban movie and since I never agree to watch bad action movies with him otherwise, he sensed he could Doom. It was...really bad. I'd say it was the worst movie I'd seen in ages, but I was talked into watching Red Dawn last week(don't get me started on it). There are definitely some very good lols in the film though and the first person stuff was fun (yeah, yeah, I know everyone says that). It was pretty hilarious how hard the movie tried for appealing to 14 year old boys from the so-big-I'm-compensating-for-something guns, the comic violence, the gratuitous naked mutant lady, and the ridiculous metal track that plays over the credits. But really there was so much Urban eye candy that should stop complaining.

Last week was a recovery week for me. I am trying to get back into lj stuff.:/
